Catherine Noone — Your independent voice on council

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, and the significant Aboriginal history of Nicholls Ward, proudly named after Pastor Sir Doug Nicholls.

I love being a resident of Nicholls ward. I grew up in Gore Street, Fitzroy. I went to school locally, learned to swim locally, and did work experience at the local library. I have worked and volunteered in the area and I still use our great local parks, council services, businesses and shops. Our amenities are important to us all.

With a family background in advocacy, I have a long record in community activities. From contributing in my childhood to Gore Street Area Action Group’s campaign for quieter and safer residential streets, to community development and disability support work with the Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre, North Fitzroy Public Residents Association, Holden Street Neighbourhood House, and Fitzroy and Carlton Community Credit Coop.

I am currently on the committee of the New International Bookshop in Carlton. Since 2007, I have worked in aged care and healthy ageing with the Victorian Public Service.

Your local Independent voice

Seeking election as a community advocate and strong independent voice for Nicholls Ward, I have listened to what matters to people in the Ward and will advocate for:

  • inclusive and diverse community participation;
  • safe and accessible streets, parks and services;
  • social connection and the wellbeing of our community;
  • addressing climate change to save our planet;
  • protection of local heritage and appropriate development, not over development;
  • good governance and accountability.

The pandemic has highlighted how important it is to keep our area safe, accessible and liveable, for everyone.

I know how much can be achieved by working together on this. As an active committee member at Holden Street for nearly 10 years, and as Chair for 5 years, I worked with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. I am proud of our work to integrate environmental sustainability into every aspect of the Neighbourhood House, while adapting to changing community needs and funding requirements.

As an independent councillor, with a lifelong commitment to social justice, I will work with you to make sure Nicholls ward continues as a great place to grow up, live, work, play, and grow old.

Let me know what matters to you
